Two Cancers

by: Sandy on Tue, May 20 2008

In November of 2003, I was diagnosed with breast cancer On December 23, I had a masectomy and then began my chemo and radiation regimen. This was my daughter’s senior year and we tried to make everything as normal as possible. I was her high school counselor so every day at school I tried to act healthy even though I had a wig on and felt nauseous most of the time. We got through all of the breast cancer stuff and everything was going fine. During one of my visits to my oncologists, he noticed that I was continually anemic. He told me I needed to send a stool sample in for testing. Boy, was that fun! They found blood in my stool and I was sent immediately to have a colonoscopy. They found a lesion and so once again I was scheduled for surgery. A big part of my colon was removed and once again I was in the oncology office for chemo Thank goodness for wonderful doctors and treatment! It has been 4 years and 4 months since my breast cancer and 2 years since colon cancer and everything looks GREAT now. My advice to cancer patients is to hang in there and listen to your body and your doctors!!
