Dysplasia Surprise

It was the weekend of Easter Break and I felt that I should go into the health clinic at school just to get checked out. I had the option of getting a full female exam which included a papsmear. I took the option to make sure that I covered all my bases. When I got the results back saying that I had mild dysplasia, I paniced because I didn’t really know much about dysplasia other than the fact that it was a precancerous sign. I immediately called my mother and asked her what should I do. She told me to schedule an appointment with a gynocologist and get the pap repeated to make sure the previous resluts were correct. Once I got home, the OB-GYN told me that the mild dysplasia I had was HPV. I was again struck with a devistating blow because I had no idea that dysplasia was HPV So, I am scheduled for another pap this August and then a colposcopy once I get back the school.

I urge any woman or man who hasn’t been to the doctor in a while or who feels that something might be odd, go get it checked out. I hadn’t been to the doctor in over a year and a half and it turns out I have mild dysplasia/ HPV. It can’t hurt to be cautious.
