To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Cervical Dysplasia, my experience. About four years ago I was diagnosed with my first abnormal pap smear. (I was 26 or 27 yrs old). It was a mild dysplasia, and they did a biopsy about 3 weeks later, which came back with normal cells. I continued with paps every three to four months for the next 3 years. I even had 2 normal pap smears but when I went for my third (they want you to have 3 before assuming it has resolved on its own) and it came back abnormal again. So I had to have another biopsy, at which point the dysplasia was a grade II, and considered high risk for cancer. I opted for a leep procedure ( instead of freezing or burning the lesion) so the doctors could test the removed tissue and check it more thoroughly (for cancer) and decide what kind of medical treatment I will need for the future. I just had my surgery today, it is an outpatient surgery, they put me under anesthesia and I don’t remember a thing. I do not have any cramping and hardly any bleeding. I am relieved to have made the choice for surgery even though I am terrified of the hospital. I am sure I will continue having many pap smears at frequent intervals, and I am waiting for the dr. to let me know what happens next. I have quit smoking, and am going to take care of my body better. I recommend the procedure to anyone who needs it, I think it is worth it. Good luck to everyone with dysplasia, I hope my story helps at least one person. Just remember to listen to your Dr., and do not ignore that you need regular and frequent paps. It can save your life.
