In 2004 I had a prolonged period and went to my Dr. They insisted with doing a pap while I was bleeding heavy. My pap came back as agus. My period did stop on it’s own before my colpa-scope. Had biopsies also done at that time. Also had uterine biopsy. All of these test came back normal. They advised me to come back in 6 months for another pap smear. I returned after 1 year,as I was having another prolonged period, and once again they insisted on pap testing me while I was bleeding heavy.Once again my pap came back agus. At that time I switched Dr.s as I was not happy with the clinic I was going to. She preformed a punch biopsy with negative results. I went under general anestesia and had a loop exe.done…Also normal.I continued after that to get paps done every 3 months for 1 year NEVER during my period, and all (THANK GOD)have come back normal ! I am 51 years old and my odd bleeding was caused because I am in perimenopause state. I read up alot on this agus thing etc… and it plainly states that woman should not have paps done while doing any bleeding at all, it can cause abnormal readings! I am not saying that this can happen to everyone, but it surely does happen quite a bit.I was hysterical over all this and you can best believe I will continue to get my pap test done as recommended by my Dr. Just thought I’d share this because it could help others. I only wish I had info on this while I was going thru this. I still would of went thru all that I did to be on the safe side, but maybe a little calmer. GOD Bless
