Hurt and Betrayal

by: AT on Mon, Oct 08 2007

Hi Everybody. I am a 21 year old college student and I was diagnosed with Cervical dysplasia in late june. I knew that my pap smear was going to be abnormal because back in september (almost a year before), I had some bleeding between my normal period. So my doctor thought it was an hormonal imbalance and put me on contraceptives. It worked for a while but I noticed that I was still spotting and I would spot after intercourse.

Well when I got my pap smear results, Not only did it show that I had cervical dysplasia but Chlamydia I knew then that my boyfriend was unfaithful and I was crushed. I thought we were in a monogamous relationship but obviously not. My doctor initially thought that the infection had caused my abnormal pap smear. When I got a repeat done in September, the abnormal cells were still there. So I got the coloscopy [colposcopy] and biopsy. The biopsy found no dysplasia. My doctor indicated that the abnormal cells may be in my cervix but until then he wants to do a repeat pap smear in 3 months. I’m trying to relax and take care of my body in the meantime (which is something I have been neglecting) but I can’t help but worry.
I don’t know whether I have scarring from chlamydia (which is awful) or cervical cancer (which is just as awful). I hope that I have neither but only time will tell.

I shared this information with you all to both try to forgive myself and to try to help someone who is going through the same thing. Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers. And I wish the best to anyone who is going through this now.

I was hoping that I could get a little more information. I am a 38 year old mom of three (18yrs,16yrs,10yrs). When my last child was born, I had my tubes tied. I have had several abnormal pap smears over the past few years, as well as three coloscopys throughout that time period. the first took five tissue samples, the second took eight, and the last one took three. Each time, I am told that the pap smears are abnormal but within “normal limits” and the doctor tells me that the results of the coloscopy states that I have a “high risk” HPV, chronic active cervicitis, and squamous atypcia. No displasia was detected. [more..]

I am 21 years old with a 13 month old son and 33 weeks pregnant with another boy. When I went in for my first pap smear with my first son, I was told that it was abnormal and would need a colposcopy. After the colposcopy, my doctor told me that he did not see any abnormal cells and I went about the pregnancy and gave birth. I found out I was pregnant again in April, and of course had another pap smear. Again I was told it was abnormal and would need another colposcopy. [more..]

I had a pap smear in March 2007 and it came back as HPV high risk. I had a colposcopy done which revealed no lesions on the cervix. What a relief at that time. Then in September I had a follow up pap smear and this time it came back as moderate to severe dysplasia. I was scared stiff. [more..]
