worried

I was hoping that I could get a little more information. I am a 38 year old mom of three (18yrs,16yrs,10yrs). When my last child was born, I had my tubes tied. I have had several abnormal pap smears over the past few years, as well as three coloscopys throughout that time period. the first took five tissue samples, the second took eight, and the last one took three. Each time, I am told that the pap smears are abnormal but within “normal limits” and the doctor tells me that the results of the coloscopy states that I have a “high risk” HPV, chronic active cervicitis, and squamous atypcia. No displasia was detected. I have also been told that I have a “large” cervical eversion that produce a few minor symptoms such as discomfort, and spotting and discharge. Since I have only had one partner my entire life (20 years of marriage), I am concerned as to where I could have contracted this HPV Virus. Also, my mother passed away fron uterine/cervical cancer a few years ago, so I am highly concerned about the results that I have been receiving. I am scheduled for another pap smear with the same doctor in six months, but really do not feel comfortable given that I really have had no definitive answers at this point that satisfy my mind. The doctor states that at this time, he feels it best just to monitor me closely. If something should be done, I would like to act proactively, rather than wait… and wait… just to “see what happens”
Should I consult with another physician?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • Uninformed and afraid - by Chelsey - (Wed, Oct 10 2007)
I am 21 years old with a 13 month old son and 33 weeks pregnant with another boy. When I went in for my first pap smear with my first son, I was told that it was abnormal and would need a colposcopy. After the colposcopy, my doctor told me that he did not see any abnormal cells and I went about the pregnancy and gave birth. I found out I was pregnant again in April, and of course had another pap smear. Again I was told it was abnormal and would need another colposcopy. [more..]
