In September I went in to the doctor after a strange experience on my birthday. I went out with my husband (for the first time since my last birthday) and had four glasses of wine over a five hour period (not enough to get me drunk). We went to a friend’s house to hang out for a little while, at which point I blacked out and lost six hours. My husband, thinking I was just drunk, passed out on my friend’s couch. I have no recollection of what happened, but he says I was talking, joking, and what not, and then passed out. I knew better, and went to my doctor and told him what happened, after which he ordered a tox screen and it came back positive for benzodiazepines: xanax, valium, rohypnol (a common date rape drug), and others. I cannot take xanax or valium as I am super sensitive to them when mixed with alcohol, and given my sensitivity, I’m lucky I didn’t die. In any case, I wound up with a funky vaginal discharge a few days later, so I went back to my doc and he decided to do a pap, and a full std panel just in case. There was no evidence of sexual assault, which was a relief. I suspected bacterial vaginosis, but found out I had HPV with mild cervical dysplasia (CIN I). I was immediately set up with an OB-GYN and after a couple months he repeated the pap (wanted to use his people), only to have it come back as still abnormal, and high risk. Only a few weeks later, I had a colposcopy done, and it came back with moderate dysplasia (CIN II). Now, two weeks later, I’m going in for a cone biopsy, and I’m terrified. I’ve never been under. But, I guess if I don’t do something now, it will only get worse. All this in the course of a year? Comments
