I am 29 years old and recently found out I had IC but not before being treated numerous times for UTIs and not feeling better and wondering why the antibiotics weren’t helping me. I had horrendous back and abdominal pain and groin pain in the past and after years of being misdiagnosed by doctors who said I had irritable bowel (my bowel was never irritable, I had normal bowels all the time) and pushing to keep seeing new doctors until I got the right answer I found out I had fibroids last June. I took six months of Lupron shots to shrink my fibroids…..nothing like having hot flashes and night sweats and other menopause symptoms at 29! Thankfully they worked and my fibroids were small and my pain was gone…or so I thought. I started back to work as I had missed a lot from the pain and resigned from my job. I was good for about three weeks and the pain returned. I was speechless. I insisted that they check my fibroids after everything else was checked and was fine and my fibroids were still tiny. I had never heard of IC but kept having to pee all the time and felt like I had a UTI again. Thankfully my hubby thought to contact a Urologist and get me in and he suspected IC. I read about it on the internet and couldn’t believe how much it was like me. I had the cystoscopy and sure enough he saw the bladder and said I had it. I am thankful to have the diagnosis but it sucks to know there’s no cure for this. I can’t remember the last time I had a good night’s sleep as I’m up all the time in the night from my pain from needing to pee. Also I’m very frustrated with the intimacy thing since it really hurts when I’m intimate with my hubby but I want to enjoy it. I try to stay positive that at least this is something I can live with but boy is it a challenge to live with at times! Comments
