I consider myself a very lucky person. During my annual PAP / Breast Exam my doctor found a suspicious lump between my left breast and underarm. Immediately I was scheduled for a mammogram and ultrasound. Turned out the left side was merely a swollen lymph but the right breast showed a small but clear tumor along with another area the pathologist called “worriesome”. After ultrasounds, biopsies and an MRI it was determined that I had invasive ductal carcinoma and DCIS. Having a family history of cancer on both sides, the plan became very clear. My mastectomy was scheduled. I am now about one month post-op and have received my pathology report. All margins clear, no lymph node involvement, no additional treatment at this time. It DOES pay off to have those yearly exams and mammograms!!!
