Pregnant with twins with Cervical Dysplasia and HPV

by: Missie on Mon, Jun 04 2007

I found out I was pregnant at the end of may 2006. I went to the midwife to see that everything felt in the right place and make sure my cervix was doing what it should, and was happy to hear it was. I was diagnosed as moderate cervical dysplasia with HPV
My pregnancy went along uneventfully until December 23. I was due Jan 26, 2007. My contractions started Dec 22 around 9:30 pm. I didn’t know I was having twins, feeling that ultrasound was unsafe due to the low birth weight it has been reported to cause and one heartbeat was only ever heard.
At about 9:30 am Dec 23 my water broke and I felt two little feet crossed at the ankle. Here at home in my bathroom I felt we were safe. A minute later she came out into the tub of warm water waiting for her. A couple of minutes later I felt some more contractions. Thinking it was the placenta getting ready, I was sure surprised to find more water breaking and feeling two more little feet. I had to put the first baby down quickly and get on my blanket to birth the second baby. After cutting the umbilical cord for the first baby to make sure the second baby would get all her blood, she slipped out easily. I only pushed 2 times through the whole experience and my cervix worked perfectly. There were no complications for any of us from the well-prepared for unassisted birth in my home.
The twins are now 5 months old and breastfed exclusively, and gaining very well. I decided to wait until they were a year old before getting another pap test as I heard that research has shown dysplasia, especially in those younger than 25, can regress within 3 years, regardless of HPV status.
