Dealing WIth RSD - My SECRET!!

Hi my name is Sarah. I am 15 years old and have had RSD for a little over a year. I Had a major ankle injury about a year ago. I had a class ankle sprain ( where you rip all the legiments in your ankle completely ) and then i sustained damage to the talus bone in my ankle from the sprain.
I ended up having surgery on my ankle and about 2 weeks after the surgery i started to feel burning in my foot, it would turn blue and purple, and would swell it felt like i had millions of needles stabbing my foot. My doctor Perscribed Neurotin. And it was hell! I was taking it three times a day and the side effects were HORRIBLE!! i was failed tests, i couldnt concetrate, it blurred my vision. i hated it. I just now got off the meds about a month ago nd am trying to go as long as i can without any.
I just recently went to a wellness center and met with a doctor there. She has me on a few supliments that help with the pain. they are basically helping other systems in my body that somehow relate to the nerve system that ir irrtated. So far i feel a lot better, however the burning is still a lot. Except a few weeks ago my mom got me to try acupuncture…i know some people may think that it doesnt work, but man it does! i have felt a difference! it doesnt last long but i helps a little. I think you should try it! its worth a try! and i feel for all you who are dealing with RSD It is a pain! oh and another thing i have tried is using a tensing unit.
My physical therapist said it might work and i got one. For all you who dont know its a little machine that has wires atached to it. YOu stick these littl e round stickers to you and then you hoop the wires from the machine to those stckerrs and it send electical shocks through your nerves. By no means does it cure RSD, but it does help with pain!! I use it 1 - 2 times a day and it usually keeps the pain minimal for 6-8 hs which is nice!! SO talk to your doctor about a tensing machine! you will love it!!
I will keep all those who are looking for advice updated it i find any new things that work!
Let me know if you know of anything that works for you! i wanna find something that helps! i am a dancer, and havent been able to dance since my injury because of the RSD, there is too much pain!

My RSD started in the foot as well. My horse fell on me and smashed my foot. Unlike you, I get along with Neurotin fairly well, but my pain was still ...Read
